Those of you who follow Denny Emerson on Facebook will recognize this photo which was the cover of the Oct. 1962 issue of TMH. He is on Miller's Commander going thru the West Woodstock covered bridge on the Vermont 100 Mile Ride. Denny remains an advocate for the long distance rides.
Miller's Commander was sired by Miller's Pride and out of Betty Ross.
Miller's Pride was by Woodland Chief (Allenwood x Manscot Lullaby--Mansfield x Scotana) and out of Gertie G (Tipperary x Fryar). Allenwood & Fryar had the Old Vermont blood also.
Betty Ross was by Mansfield and out of Berry's Bess who was by Cecil 1 6034 and out of Belle by Trefren Horse 3973. The second dam of Berry's Bess was by Houghton's Beauty 3969. This is some unusual Old Vermont blood very close up.
Miller's Commander was also the driving horse for Denny's father.
