1952 & 1953 mares
bred by Theis Co. Kansas
Golden Girl--(Silgal's Improver x Adlyndra)
Golden Lass--(Silgal's Improver x Especially)
In 1952, CecilFerguson saw an ad in The Morgan Horse Magazine for an entire herd of Morgans in Kansas that were for sale due to extreme drought & no feed there. He bought the herd, in part to save them, and in part to bring a more stout horse to New England where the good legs & solid bodies were being lost. They shipped from Kansas to Rhode Island via freight train. The mares had partially weaned foals & were in foal again. I do not remember the exact story, but somehow the foals got lose & took off wanting their dams. Eventually, all foals were found & reunited with the mares & all was good. Fergy kept many of the mares for his own breeding & sold some. The mares were indeed stout, solid, correct ranch work bred Morgans & did much good in the Morgan world all over New England.
