BTW it doesn't look like I'm getting that BIG Lippitt gelding as the owner really prefers to sell rather than lease. He'll be a nice horse for someone. I don't remember what she told me about the breeding, except the breeder was in Vermont, the sire's prefix started with C and the dam was a "Wachusett" prefix mare.
I do think I have my lease horse, though. She lost her papers somewhere along the way, but is definitely all Morgan! 14 hands, likes to GO, seems very brave and confident. She also seems to be gaited (she has a faster-than-walk gait that is very smooth.) I posted video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF7vnZTvybs though I'm not sure you'll be able to see it on dial-up. If you do -- please excuse that position in that saddle! It's a brand that just doesn't work for me.
This blog is dedicated to the Old Morgan--either those who are long gone or those who are contemporary and aged. I will be posting photos of historical Morgans and my own aged horses. Visitors are welcome to submit photos, both historical horses and their own aged horses. Please make the photos of reasonable size and make sure they are compressed. Include as much information as possible on each photo. Use this email addy--
I've been a student of the horse all my life and an avid reader of all sorts of books. I got into Morgans in 1979, getting my first Morgans in 1980 and then becoming a breed historian with published articles in various publications. I still have Morgans, and cats.
I love this photo; the horse looks so happy.
