Oh wow I am glad that you posted this blog. I love Old Morgans. We have an old style Morgan,Joe, he's 30 so maybe in style when he was a baby. He's totally retired now but he is so sweet. In his younger days he was a comedian and his feet are huge! He was an easy keeper till the last two years. He is only 15.2 but heavy, heavy, heavy. He makes the horse trailer go down more than when my son's 16.2 quarter horse gets in and I can feel J. I really have to find my weight tape him. I will have to find a pretty pic of him, when he was showing in 4H.
Sadly, he wasn't in style for the show ring even as a baby. However, the Old Type is still the Morgan of choice for everything else. Do you know his registered name?
No I don't. He belonged to a friend of my dad's in Oregon during the 1980's and he used him to hunt off of. Eventually, due to a bad back, he brought him down to Ca. to us. We've had him for 20 years now and we've only known him as Joe.
I just remembered, he matched the Breyer model of a Morgan Stallion. I had it until a fire wiped out a lot of my horses Breyer and statues. I'll have to see if I can find a pic.
This blog is dedicated to the Old Morgan--either those who are long gone or those who are contemporary and aged. I will be posting photos of historical Morgans and my own aged horses. Visitors are welcome to submit photos, both historical horses and their own aged horses. Please make the photos of reasonable size and make sure they are compressed. Include as much information as possible on each photo. Use this email addy--
I've been a student of the horse all my life and an avid reader of all sorts of books. I got into Morgans in 1979, getting my first Morgans in 1980 and then becoming a breed historian with published articles in various publications. I still have Morgans, and cats.
